Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent and hang to dry. Avoid fabric softener — it coats the fibres and stops muslin from softening. Skip the hot wash and the hot dryer: high temperatures are what cause shrinkage.
Muslin is a natural, slightly elastic weave, so small size variations are normal. Measurements are taken at full stretch.
What is Muslin Cotton?
A fabric with a long history
Muslin came out of ancient Bengal, where it was woven so finely that it was nicknamed "woven wind". It was light enough to pass through a ring and strong enough to outlive the person who bought it. The weave we use today is the same idea: fine cotton yarn, loosely woven, layered for substance.

Orders are processed in 1–3 working days and travel for another 6–10 working days, so most parcels arrive within 8 to 14 working days. Monogrammed items need an extra 2–4 working days for embroidery. Remote areas and the Territories can take a little longer.
Every order ships with a track & trace link. Parcels are declared so you should not be asked for customs duties — if you ever are, send us the receipt and we'll refund it. We currently ship to Canada only.
Returns — 100 Nights
Take 100 nights to decide. If it isn't right, email support@borealloom.com with your order number and we'll arrange a return, exchange or store credit. Returns need to be approved first and may travel to a warehouse outside Canada; return postage is yours if you've simply changed your mind, and ours if the item arrived damaged, defective or incorrect. Nine Layers, Not Four
The Winter Muslin Blanket uses the same 100% natural muslin cotton as our classic blanket, layered nine times instead of four. That's roughly 50% more fabric and noticeably more warmth — but because every layer is still an open muslin weave, it insulates by trapping air rather than by sealing heat in. You get a properly warm winter blanket that doesn't leave you clammy at 2 a.m.

It starts with the boll
Natural cotton is harvested, cleaned and spun into fine, even yarn. No synthetics, no blends — just cotton.

Then it gets woven
The yarn runs through looms set to an open, multi-layer muslin structure. That open gauze is where the breathability comes from.

Every piece is pre-washed, then checked by hand before it ships. Soft on arrival, softer with every wash after.

Yes, and that's the main reason we use it. The open weave lets air move through instead of trapping it, so it cools you in summer and holds warmth in winter without ever feeling stifling. In a Canadian home that goes from -20 °C outside to overheated inside, that matters more than raw thickness.
Both are cotton, but muslin is woven in an open, multi-layer structure. That makes it breathable, hypoallergenic and gentle enough for sensitive skin and for babies. Unlike synthetics it doesn't trap heat or hold odour, it regulates temperature naturally, and it softens with age instead of pilling and breaking down. It's also free of harsh chemical finishes, which is a healthier choice for the people who actually sleep under it.
